Let’s All Have a Good Laugh at This San Diego State Free Throw Airball (Video)
There is perhaps nothing more humiliating in the game of basketball than a free throw airball. I mean, you’re just standing there, 15 feet away from the basket, and nobody is even allowed to come near you. Barring a stroke or seizure at the exact moment you release the ball, it seems almost impossible that a male over the age of 12 could miss both the rim and the backboard. And yet it happens a hell of a lot more often than you would think.
Last night it happened to a San Diego State junior forward named Skylar Spencer. Midway through the second half of the #13 Aztecs’ game against the San Diego Toreros, with his team up 40-31, Spencer was fouled and sent to the line, where he would go on to miss both of his free throws. However, only one attempt was bad enough to become the “San Diego State free throw airball.”
Take a look:
That’s very embarrassing. But Skylar shouldn’t feel too bad about himself. Both Dwight Howard and Blake Griffin have been known to air out a free throw on occasion, and their careers are doing just fine.
