Mizzou’s Shane Ray Ejected for Massive Hit on Blake Sims (Video)
Missouri was fighting to stay alive in the SEC Championship Game against Alabama’s Crimson Tide but they took a big hit in their defensive line thanks to defensive end Shane Ray‘s big hit on Alabama quarterback Blake Sims. The move got Shane Ray ejected from the game.
During the second quarter of the game, Sims launched a massive touchdown pass to DeAndrew White but he wasn’t able to stay on his feet and see it because he got absolutely clobbered by Ray after he threw the ball. Ray ran up the right side and managed to penetrate Alabama’s blockers just before Sims spotted White and threw the ball. Ray, however, continued to run right into Sims at break neck speed causing their helmets to collide and sending Sims flying to the floor.
BroBible turned the crushing and illegal tackle into a GIF so we all can enjoy the wincing, bone crushing madness:
Fortunately, Sims wasn’t seriously injured but that didn’t stop the referees from hitting Ray with a huge penalty. Refs slapped Ray with a personal foul for targeting and threw him out of the game, leaving a huge hole in Mizzou’s defensive line.
That touchdown made the score 28-13 with just over 12 minutes left to go in the final quarter of the game. And Bama would continue to pour it on from there, as they came away with an impressive 42-13 victory, the SEC title, and a spot in the first ever College Football Playoff.
We know there’s no such thing as an LVP (least valuable player), but they should create it just so they award it to Ray for his little stunt.
