Athletes who slept with the wife of a teammate? You would think such a thing hardly ever happens. Wealthy, famous, physically fit men typically have a lot of options open to them when it comes to female companionship. There’s absolutely no need to covet a teammate’s lady and jeopardize team chemistry.
It happens, though. Probably more often than you would think. Sometimes the guy doing the cheating is a superstar, and sometimes the guy cheated on is a superstar. But no matter what, sh*t always hits the fan, because there are some things teammates just can’t do…like each others’ wives.
Ready to meet the douchebags? Great. But before we begin, we should point out that while some of these guys are confirmed douchebags, other’s only alleged douchebags. We will of course differentiate between the rumors and the confirmed facts as we go along. However, for what it’s worth, we’ve only included rumors that we think are plausible.
Okay, now on to the athletes who slept with the wife of a teammate…
Based on what we know about Karl Malone, he probably did sleep with the wife of a teammate at some point during his long, Hall of Fame career. However, the only instance of infringing upon a teammate's territory came in 2004, when he was trying to win that elusive ring with the Lakers.
You see, Kobe and his wife befriended Karl and his wife when they moved to town, and they frequently saw each other socially. However, one night Karl hit on Vanessa, making it very clear that if she ever wanted to get back at Kobe for cheating on her, he'd be game.
Of course, Vanessa told Kobe about it, and Kobe was not happy. But since things never escalated, we can't rightfully include this incident in with the others.
Dishonorable Mention: Karl Malone
Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray didn't sleep with the wife or girlfriend of one of his Cowboys teammates. (At least, not that we know of.) However, he did have an affair with the wife of former Oklahoma Sooners teammate Brennan Clay. Or at least that's what Clay has said...very publicly.
Is sleeping with the wife of a former teammate as bad as sleeping with the wife of a current teammate? Not quite. But if true, it's still pretty low.

This one falls into the "Classic Sporst Sex Scandal Rumor" category. As legend has it, Jason Kidd was "dating" Toni Braxton during his first stint with the Mavericks in the mid 1990s. However, one day Braxton showed up to the team hotel for a date with Kidd and ended up leaving with Jimmy Jackson instead.
Like I said—unsubstantiated rumor. We know for sure, however, that there was a feud between Kidd and Jackson, and that both were traded away by 1997. So it all fits.

Prince Fielder struggled during the 2013 season, drawing a lot of criticism from fans and members of the media. However, veteran outfielder Torii Hunter defended his teammate, saying only that he was going through some personal sh*t that nobody knows about.
What was that personal sh*t? Well, rumor has it rookie outfielder Avisail Garcia "boned" his wife. (Hey, that's Wikipedia's word, not mine.) When this came out, there was an epic fight in the clubhouse that left Miguel Cabrera (who stuck up for Fielder, obviously) injured.
Is the rumor true? I'm going to file this in the maybe/probably folder. Fielder did file for divorce from his wife. He did suck in 2013. Garcia was traded mid-season to the White Sox. And Fielder was later traded to the Rangers just two years after signing with the Tigers.

In 2010, rumors started flying that England and Chelsea captain John Terry, one of the most famous soccer players in Europe, had a four-month affair with Vanessa Perroncel.
Who is Vanessa Perroncel? She's a model. And at the time, she was also the girlfriend of Terry's former England and Chelsea teammate, Wayne Bridge.
Of course, Perroncel and Terry (who is married) deny the rumor to this day. But Bridge's actions speak louder than their words. He refused to shake Terry's hand during a game in 2010, and he removed himself from consideration for the English national team ahead of the 2010 World Cup rather than have ot play with his former friend.

Apparently, being a sh*thead who sleeps with his teammates wives and girlfriends runs in the Terry family, because his older brother Paul did the same thing. In 2011, it came out that Paul Terry, who plays for lower-division Rushden & Diamonds FC—had slept with the fiancée of goalie Dale Roberts.
Unfortunately, Paul's actions led to something far worse than a refused handshake. Dale Roberts took his own life in December of 2010 after he learned of the affair.

Apparently, right around the turn of the millennium, Russian tennis player-turned-professional hot chick Anna Kournikova was dating and/or engaged to Russian national hockey team members Sergei Fedorov and Pavel Bure at the same time.
The details are a little hazy because nobody seems to agree with anybody else. In 1999, Kournikova and Fedorov were definitely dating. However, in 2000, she was definitely photographed having dinner with Pavel Bure in Florida, and rumors flew that the two were engaged. But in 2001, Kournikova married Fedorov. Or at least, that's what Fedorov said. She denies it.
Something was going on here between a trio of Russian superstars. We just don't know exactly what.

When Steve Nash announced that he and his wife were getting a divorce just days after the birth of their third child in 2010, rumors immediately started flying—the most salacious being that the baby was not white.
In time, that rumor proved to be untrue. However, another rumor—that Suns teammate Jason Richardson slept with Nash's wife—persist to this day. The reasons? (A) Jason Richardson was traded days after Nash announced his divorce. And (B) the Lakers apparently refused to take Richardson in a trade when they had the chance in 2012—when Nash was there.

Wayne Carey is widely regarded as one of thegreatest Australian rules football players of all time. So what could have made everyone in Australia suddenly hate him in 2002? How about hooking up with a teammate's wife in the bathroom at a team birthday party.
That's right. Carey hooked up with the wife of Anthony Stevens at a party and everybody saw it happen. So everybody suddenly hated him, and he ended up quitting the team and running off to hide from the media for a whole year before re-emerging and joining another team.

What could make a man cheat on a woman like Eva Longoria, who is both very cool and extremely hot? The woman you see standing next to Longoria in this photo, apparently. She is the former wife of Brent Barry, with whom the Longoria's ex Tony Parker carried on some sort of illicit affair that ended both marriages and prompted Berry to opt out of his contract with the Spurs in 2008.

In 1998, just months before the World Cup and months after being named "Captain for Life" by USMNT coach Steve Sampson, John Harkes was left off the US roster.
Nobody said why at the time, and Sampson only cited "leadership issues." However, in 2010, Sampson and Eric Wynalda finally admitted that Harkes was cut because he had slept with Wynalda's wife, Amy...which, yeah, is pretty f*cking bad.

When Cleveland Indians center fielder stole Dennis Eckersley's wife, Denise, in 1978, the Indians knew they couldn't keep both players. So they decided to trade...Eckersley.
How'd that work out for the Tribe? Well, Rick Manning went on to win...one gold glove, zero MVPs, and make zero All-Star appearances. Dennis Eckersley, meanwhile, is in the Baseball Hall of Fame. So not well.

Brendan Shanahan was one of the most entertaining hockey players of his generation. In 1993-94 with the St. Louis Blues—his best season—the guy scored 52 goals and recorded 50 assists while spending a whopping 211 minutes in the penalty box. He was amazing.
Unfortunately, Shanahan's biggest fan was Catherine Janney, who just happened to be the wife of teammate Craig Janney.
When the team discovered that Shanny had been getting busy with Janney's wife early in the lockout-shortened 1994-95 season, coach and GM Mike Keenan tried to fix the locker room by shipping Janney to San Jose and eventually trading for Wayne Gretzky. However, that most definitely did not fix the lockerroom, and Keenan eventually traded Shanahan in the offseason.
At the time, Blues fans were livid that the team had traded one of their best players. But in 1998 the truth finally came out when Shanahan, scorer of 656 NHL goals, married Catherine Janney.
