Buzzer-Beaters from Gasol and Duncan Highlight Grizzlies-Spurs Triple-Overtime Thriller (Video)
Last night’s Grizzlies-Spurs game was quite possibly the best game of the 2014-15 NBA season so far. It took three overtimes to decide and featured back-and-forth clutch shots, including a pair of long-range game-tying buzzer-beaters from guys who don’t normally make long-range game-tying buzzer-beaters.
In the fourth quarter, with the game tied 89-89 and 7.2 seconds left on the clock, Danny Green inbounded the ball to Boris Diaw. Diaw quickly dished it to Manu Ginobili, who dished it back to Green in the corner, and Green sank a three with just 2.5 seconds left. However, after a timeout, the Grizzlies inbounded to 7’1″ center Marc Gasol. Ginobili was right there guarding him about five feet outside the three-point line, but with time running out, he knew it was better to let the big man fire a desperation three from way downtown than foul him. But of course, Gasol hit the shot and sent the game to overtime.
Then, in the second overtime, the Spurs had a 109-108 lead with eight seconds left when the Grizzlies brought the ball down the court and got the ball to Courtney Lee in the corner, who hit a three-pointer with 2.6 seconds left. But the Spurs then took a page out of the Grizzlies book and inbounded the ball to their big man, Tim Duncan. And Tim Duncan went all Hall of Famer on the Grizzlies, sinking a game-tying fadeaway over Gasol.
The Grizzlies would eventually go on to win in the third overtime, 117-116. It was one hell of a game. Here are all the highlights:
