NBA Draft Bust Darko Milicic Loses First Pro Kickboxing Bout in Grotesque Fashion (Video)

darko milicic kickboxing debut

Remember Darko Milicic, the guy selected by the Detroit Pistons with the No. 2 pick in the 2003 NBA Draft, right after LeBron and before Carmelo, Bosh, and D-Wade? If you do, then it’s almost certainly because Darko Milicic was a huge draft bust. The 7’1″ Serb wound up playing just 468 games in his NBA career, averaging 6.0 points and 4.2 rebounds per game before retiring two summers ago at the age of 28.

So why do I bring him up? Because apparently Darko is now a kickboxer, and this week he had his first professional fight.

It went about as well as his NBA career. Milicic managed to not get himself knocked out in the first round, and went on the offensive here and there. However, given Darko’s extreme height advantage, his opponent decided to attack low. And at the very end of the first round, Darko took a kick on the shin that opened up a grotesque gash.

As a result, the fight was called off and Darko is now 0-1.

If you’re not squeamish, take a look. At 1:44 they show a replay of the blow that caused the gash, and at 1:54 it gets really nasty.

Yep, that’s gross. Sorry.
