Scott Brooks Reaction To Dion Waiters Acquisition: “Uh…an Offensive, Um…Game”
The Knicks, Cavs, and Thunder pulled off a pretty interesting six-player, three-team trade on Sunday. The Thunder sent small forward Lance Thomas to the Knicks and a future first-round pick to the Cavs. The Knicks sent shooting guards Iman Shumpert and J.R. Smith to the Cavs. And the Cavs sent a 2019 second-round pick to the Knicks and shooting guard Dion Waiters to the Thunder.
The biggest names in the deal are Shumpert, a defensive specialist the Cavs sorely need, and Smith, the 2012-13 Sixth Man of the Year. But the Waiters deal is significant, too. Though advanced metrics rate him as a below-average player through the first two-and-a-half years of his career, he’s shown flashes of potential brilliance. Under the right conditions, he could become a valuable offensive weapon.
The Scott Brooks reaction? Unfortunately for the OKC Thunder coach, when he met with the press to discuss the arrival of Dion Waiters, he didn’t have the luxury of laying the numbers out before him and formulating coherent English sentences like I just did. So he came off sounding a little underwhelmed.
Take a look:
Welcome to Oklahoma, uh, City, D…um…Dion.
