Oregon Receiver Byron Marshall Nearly Blew His 70-Yard Touchdown with an Epic Celebration Fail (GIFs)
As bad as things got for the Oregon Ducks during last night’s CFP Championship Game, they could have been even worse. Oregon receiver Byron Marshall was about an inch away from committing one of the most infamous celebration fails in the history of college football.
The Ducks started the second half trailing the Buckeyes 21-10. However, after picking off a pass by OSU’s Cardale Jones, Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota threw a deep pass down the middle to Byron Marshall, who caught the ball and turned on the jets, running it in for a 70-yard touchdown.
However, there was just one problem. Marshall dropped the ball as he was entering the endzone, and the referees had to review the play to make sure he didn’t drop it too soon.
How close was it? Extremely close. Take a look:
As it is, the touchdown stood and Oregon still got blown out. However, if Marshall had dropped the ball one second earlier and his touchdown got called back, he would have been the scapegoat.
The lesson? Never drop the ball, kids. Ever.
