Deja Vu: That Cardale Jones Fumble Was a Lot Like the Jameis Winston Fumble (Video + GIF)
Ohio State had a 21-10 lead over Oregon midway through the inaugural CFP Championship Game on Monday night, which was surprising. However, the Ducks came storming back in the opening minutes of the second half and rattled Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones.
First came a Cardale Jones interception, which Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Maritoa turned into a 70-yard touchdown pass. Then, on the Buckeyes’ very next possession, a Cardale Jones fumble gave the Ducks the ball at the Ohio State 23 yard-line. And it wasn’t just any fumble, either. Uncanny, isn’t it? At this point, every college football fan in the country was thinking, uh huh, here we go. Here comes Oregon. The Buckeyes are going to fall apart and the Ducks are going to pounce.
But then something funny happened. After Oregon kicked a 23-yard field goal to make it 21-20, Ohio State got their sh*t together. Cardale Jones settled down, Ezekial Jones took over, and Ohio State scored 21 unanswered points to win 42-20.
Still, that fumble…
