The New England Patriots earned a decisive 45-7 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game, but that win will now be clouded in controversy after it was announced that the Pats are being investigated by the NFL for possibly deflating footballs during the contest.

Balls are required to have a certain amount of air in them when being used during a game.  Deflating a ball could make it easier to grip, throw, and catch the ball in poor conditions (like the ones Sunday’s game was played in).  According to WTHR’s Bob Kravitz, once it was assumed that the Pats may be deflating footballs, a ball was taken from the field so that it could be weighed.

There is no word yet on the results of the weighing or the investigation, but if the Patriots are found guilty they could be punished with a loss of draft picks, much like they were punished for their “Spygate” incident in 2007.
