Unheralded Auburn RB Corey Grant Impresses Scouts with Blazing 4.26 Forty at Auburn Pro Day (Video)
Auburn running back Corey Grant wasn’t considered a top NFL prospect this year, so he didn’t receive an invite to the 2015 NFL Scouting Combine. However, Grant didn’t give up on his dream. And after his performance in the 40-yard dash at Auburn’s pro day on Tuesday, chances are more than a few NFL scouts will be taking a much close look at him.
At this point everything is still “unofficial.” According to Knox Bardeen at FoxSports.com, Grant said he was told he ran the 40 in 4.26 seconds. Meanwhile, a video of his run lists the time at 4.27 seconds.
In the end, whether Grant’s time was 4.26 or 4.27, it was still faster than anyone at the NFL combine. J.J. Nelson from UAB was first with a 4.28, and Trae Waynes from Michigan State was second with a 4.31.
Obviously, running a blazing 40 doesn’t guarantee success in the NFL, and Grant was used rather sparingly by the Tigers. However, when he was used, he was successful. Grant carried the ball 126 times over the last two years, racking up 1,011 yards on 8.02 yards per carry. He also scored nine touchdowns. As a second or third stringer, that’s pretty impressive.
So his four-point-two whatever might just get him drafted in the late rounds of the 2015 NFL draft.
