Josh Smith Shushes Hawks Fans, Calls Them “Fickle Bandwagoners” (Video)
Atlanta native Josh Smith was living the dream after getting drafted by the Hawks in 2004. Hometown kid playing for the hometown team—it doesn’t get better than that.
However, despite putting up solid numbers—about 16 points and 8.5 rebounds per game—he started to wear out his welcome toward the end of his tenure with his penchant for taking (and missing) three-pointers. And when he signed a four-year, $54 million deal with the Pistons after the 2012-13 season, his relationship with Hawks fans finally soured for good.
I bring all this up because on Tuesday Josh Smith was back in Atlanta with his new team, the Houston Rockets, and he did not receive a warm welcome from his hometown fans. Instead, every time Smith touched the ball, fans in Phillips Arena booed.
His response? Watch as Josh Smith shushes Hawks fans after actually sinking a couple of three-pointers:
Of course, Atlanta fans had the last laugh. After being down by as much as 18 points, their team crushed Smith’s Rockets in the fourth quarter, outscoring them 32-15 and winning the game 104-96.
Afterward, Smith was pretty sour.
“I mean, those fans are fickle, very fickle and bandwagoners,” he said. “It really doesn’t mean anything to me…I’d been here for nine years, and all I did was positive things in the community and with the basketball team.”
