Ohio State Forward Sam Thompson Scores Two of the Luckiest Points You’ll Ever See (Video)

Ohio State forward Sam Thompson only scored eight of his team’s 77 points in their win against Penn State on Tuesday night in State College, Pennsylvania. Without some extremely good luck, he wouldn’t even have had that many.

With just two and a half minutes remaining in the first half and the Nittany Lions up six points on the 23rd-ranked Buckeyes, Thad Matta put the full-court press on during a Penn State inbound. The Penn State player charged with making the inbound pass tried to get the ball over Sam Thompson’s head, but Thompson’s reflexes were too quick. He wasn’t able to catch the ball, but he got a hand on it, sending it up into the air, off the backboard, and into the basket for two of the luckiest points you’ll ever see.

Take a look:

I don’t know if you can say that play was the turning point in the game. But OSU closed the gap to one point by the end of the first half, then outscored Penn State 48-37 in the second half to win 77-67. So it didn’t hurt.
