Marcus Smart Punched Matt Bonner in the Groin (Video)
Exactly one year ago yesterday, Marcus Smart was playing in the 2014 NCAA Tournament, where his Oklahoma State Cowboys would go on to lose to Gonzaga, despite his 23 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists, and 6 steals during that contest.
It was probably a tough loss for Smart to swallow at the time, and exactly one year later the Boston Celtics guard had to endure another tough moment in his basketball career as he was ejected from last night’s game against the San Antonio Spurs for punching Matt Bonner in the groin.
The Celts were trailing by 22 at the time, so this was likely a case of Smart venting his frustration with his team’s poor performance on the evening:
Marcus Smart was gone after that, but his cheap shot seemed to spark the rest of the Celtics players still playing the game, as they went on a 16-0 run shortly after, closing the gap to 91-84. But that was as close as they’d get to the defending NBA Champs before losing by a score of 101-89.
