Check Out This Incredible Empty Net Save by Miami RedHawks Defenseman Louie Belpido (Video)
The Miami University RedHawks were not quite able to pull off an epic comeback against the Providence Friars to keep their Frozen Four dreams alive on Saturday. After entering the third period trailing by a score of 6-2, they pulled their goalie for most of the frame and managed to make it 6-5 by the final minute of play. However, they couldn’t get that sixth goal and, with seven seconds left in the game, Providence finally put the puck in the back of the empty net.
Of course, the fact that Miami lost does not negate their incredible effort. Playing without a goalie for almost an entire period and not conceding a goal until the last few seconds of the game is an incredible feat. And it was made possible by incredible plays like this RIDICULOUS empty net save by RedHawks defenseman Louie Belpedio.
With just a minute left on the clock, Providence won the puck in a scrum along the boards and shot the puck in behind the defense. The thing was already five feet into the zone before the Miami defenseman could even more their feet. There was no way any of them could get to it. The game was over.
Except Belpedio did get to it with an absolutely spectacular dive that sent him crashing face-first into the boards. Then, despite being injured, he hobbled back to the bench so he could get off the ice and give his team a chance to tie the game
Take a look:
Unbelievable effort. Miami may have lost the game, but they’ve got absolutely nothing to regret because that was one hell of a finish.
