Penn State Walk-On LB Gets Surprised with a Scholarship (Video)

Penn State walk-on

Von Walker was a lowly Penn State walk-on last season who made the move from running back to linebacker. And though he made 12 tackles in 2014, his tenure with the team was up in the air.

But not anymore, it’s not. Mr. Walker was the surprise recipient of a scholarship from the team yesterday, meaning that he’ll likely be around for a couple more years. Oh, and he won’t have to pay for that pesky tuition.

The announcement was made in front of the team by no less than head coach James Franklin.

Here’s the emotional video. It’s nice to see the entire team get behind a teammate’s good fortune:

Normally, if you’re not getting a scholarship out of the gate, they’re going to save them as bait for recruits, and not give one up for someone who has already committed to the team. However, in Walker’s case, they made an exception. And being an exception must have made the praise all the sweeter.
