The New Red Wings Arena Looks Insanely Cool (Video)
Detroit might be facing some pretty serious municipal issues, but don’t tell their sports fans when it comes to the under-construction Red Wing arena. However, of the $650 million development for the new currently-nameless arena and its surrounding area, “only” $285 million or so will be borne by the public.
In an effort to drum up interest and future season ticket sales for when the arena officially replaces Joe Louis arena in 2018, a 10,000 square-foot space has been carved out at Comerica Park downtown to give visitors an experience of what the new arena will be like.
And, of course, there’s a hype video for the Red Wings arena which features some pretty bad-ass renderings from architecture firm HOK. Here’s that video:
The renderings and experience center are also being used to court sponsors for not just the team and the arena, but also the surrounding entertainment district and signage opportunities.
The project just got out of excavation and started going vertical after getting approvals from the city a few days ago. It would have been a real shame if they didn’t snag those approvals and were left with a giant hole and a multi-million dollar experience center with nothing to experience later.
