Here’s Video of BYU Recruit Charles West Getting Shot
On Sunday night, a BYU recruit named Charles West was shot while playing pick-up basketball outside a middle school in Coppell, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. Luckily the wound to the upper arm was not life-threatening. West was treated at a local hospital and released.
Now a video of the shooting has surfaced, courtesy of D Magazine‘s Front Burner blog. In the video, we see a bunch of young men just hanging around some cars in a parking lot. Then, all of a sudden, a black SUV races by and slams on the breaks as the rear driver side door opens. At that point the camera pans across the ground for a few seconds. When it goes up again, you see a guy in a grey and white striped t-shirt running in from the left side of the frame. Then you see a guy in black shorts and a black t-shirt—Charles West—pause in his tracks and take off running the other way as the guy in the striped shirt runs toward him, firing a gun.
It’s pretty insane. Take a look:
On Tuesday, police arrested 18-year-old Montay Howard. They say a dispute over money earlier Sunday led to the shooting. Somehow I doubt the money in question was earned by mowing lawns or working at the local ice cream stand.
As for Charles West, this is the second questionable incident he’s been involved in since signing a letter of intent to play football at BYU. Back in February he was arrested and charged with aggravated assault after a woman alleged he raped her at knifepoint.
If I had to guess, I’d say West won’t be a BYU recruit much longer.
