Sabres Forward Ryan O’Reilly Arrested for Impaired Driving After Crashing His Truck Into a Tim Hortons
On July 4, the Buffalo Sabres signed forward Ryan O’Reilly to a seven-year, $52.3 million contract extension because they believe the 24-year-old to be a cornerstone of their rebuilding effort.
Unfortunately, to realize that potential, O’Reilly is going to have to mature quite a bit and show much better judgement than he showed on July 9.
What did O’Reilly do on July 9? He got drunk and crashed the 1951 Chevrolet pickup he’d recently purchased into a Tim Hortons in Lucan, Ontario, at around 4am. Then O’Reilly drove away before he and his passenger abandoned the truck and started walking.
Police later arrested O’Reilly and charged him with impaired driving and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
The Sabres, of course, have released a statement:
“We are aware of the reports regarding the incident involving Ryan O’Reilly last week. We are currently in the process of gathering more information and will have no further comment until we have spoken with all parties involved.”
O’Reilly will appear in court to answer to the charges on August 20. And even though he damaged a Tim Hortons, which might as well be a Church in Canada, he’ll probably get off with probation, because he’s rich and famous.
Hopefully he’s learned his lesson.
