Badass 8-Year-Old With Cerebral Palsy Completes First Triathlon, Is Way More Awesome Than You
I hope you didn’t take that headline personally. I’m sure you are pretty awesome. However, it is highly unlikely that you are as awesome as Bailey Matthews of Doncaster, England, the 8-year-old with cerebral palsy who recently completed his first triathlon. Because that kid is off the charts.
On Sunday, Bailey took part in the Castle Howard Triathlon in North Yorkshire, which featured a 100 meter lake swim, a 4 kilometer bike race, and a 1.3 kilometer run.
Not surprisingly, hundreds of people stayed behind after the other competitors had finished to watch Bailey cross the finish line. And they cheered him on enthusiastically as he ditched his walking frame to complete the last 20 meters unaided.
It was ridiculously heartwarming. Just check out the look on little Bailey’s face:
Here’s what Bailey’s mom had to say to the Yorkshire Post about her amazing kid after the race:
“Bailey has always been very determined. If he wants to do something he will find a way to do it, even if it is not the conventional way…We have always tried to make sure that if there is something he wants to do, there is no such word as ‘can’t.’ He had made his mind up, we knew he would do it but I didn’t expect the reaction from everyone else. The difficult thing is that for us it is normal. We know how amazing he is but the response we have had from other people has been amazing. He inspires us all the time.”
I don’t know about you, but I feel like a jerk for complaining about having to take the dog for a walk last night.
