Lexus Has Given Us That Hoverboard We’ve Been Wanting (Video)
While myths surrounding the hoverboard from Back to the Future II have been circulating for about as long as the film has been around, it looks like it’s finally here. From an unlikely source, no less. Lexus, the Japanese auto manufacturer, has announced “Slide,” which does exactly what the hoverboard seemed to do in the film.
That is to say, it hovers. And it’s a board.
Using magnetic technology, the hoverboard sits suspended over the ground, allowing the rider to glide. If you really must know the science behind it, it involves superconductors and liquid nitrogen, and the rest of the information you need can be found here.
Otherwise, if you can live with the mystery, check out this bad-ass video, featuring pro skateboarder Ross McGouran:
It’s not sitting quite as high off the ground as we would hope, but let’s not get too picky there. The damn thing hovers!
