Fat QB Jared Lorenzen Tells The Jets He’s Available
Now that Geno Smith is out of action for anywhere from 6 to 10 weeks, the New York Jets have some decisions to make at the quarterback position.
Perhaps their most likely option is to just go with veteran play-caller Ryan Fitzpatrick, who wasn’t all that bad with the Houston Texans last season, accumulating 17 touchdowns, 8 interceptions, 2,483 yards, and a 95.3 passer rating in 12 starts. He’s proven himself to be more than capable of handling the starting duties, so don’t be surprised to see the Jets hand Fitz the reins for the time being.
Their other option is to throw rookie quarterback Bryce Petty into the fire immediately, though that could prove to be a little too much to handle for the fourth-round pick out of Baylor.
And finally, they could always look elsewhere (like the free agent pool) for their week one starting quarterback. Apparently they’ve already reached out to Rex Grossman, and former Jet Michael Vick is still unsigned. Those are two possibilities. But we’re more interested in another possible addition, should the Jets decide to take this route—that addition being everyone’s favorite fat quarterback, Jared Lorenzen.
Sure, Lorenzen hasn’t played in the NFL since he was cut by the Indianapolis Colts during the summer of 2008, but that hasn’t stopped him from trying to get back in the league. And when he heard Geno Smith was out and the Jets were in need of a quarterback, he quickly pounced on the opportunity, via Twitter:

You have to love his effort, but not even all of the promotional opportunities have earned Lorenzen some interest from the Jets. So don’t expect to see those “Hefty Lefty” t-shirts going on sale at NFLShop.com anytime soon.
