Chip Kelly Says Joe Flacco Is An Elite Quarterback, So I Guess That Settles It
Is Joe Flacco an elite quarterback? That’s been one of the most hotly debated questions among talking heads on radio and television the last few years.
It’s also been the most pointless. Why does it matter if Flacco is elite? People only debate the issue because “elite,” like “valuable,” is such a nebulous concept that means different things to different people. Flacco is a good quarterback who gets paid a lot of money because he wins lots of games. That’s really all that needs to be said about it.
But of course, some people just will not let it go. And now Eagles coach Chip Kelly, perhaps the NFL’s greatest coach-troll, has decided to weigh in on the issue.
“I think he’s one of the elite quarterbacks in this league,” Kelly told reporters on Thursday before day two of joint practices between the Eagles and Ravens.
“He’s got a big-time arm,” Kelly elaborated, fully aware that he was kicking a hornets nest. “He’s a big human being. It’s tough to bring him down. He’s also just so poised when he plays back there. You talk about when guys really got it, the game has slowed down for them. He’s such a good decision-maker. He’s an unbelievable clutch player. You look at him in all the situations he’s been in, he always seems to have poise and nothing seems to rattle him.”
So there it is. Go nuts, everybody!
