Jordy Nelson Suffers Possible Torn ACL, Season In Jeopardy (Video)
If there was one position that the Green Bay Packers could afford to take a hit at, it would probably be the wide receiver position, but that still doesn’t make it any easier to cope with the loss of Jordy Nelson after the Pro Bowl wideout went down with a knee injury during Sunday’s preseason contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Nelson is still undergoing tests on his left knee and the Packers have not made any official announcements, but initial reports indicate he suffered a torn ACL and will miss the entire 2015 NFL season. Despite the initial prognosis, head coach Mike McCarthy has chosen to remain optimistic. “I’m hoping and praying for good news tomorrow,” McCarthy told reporters following the Steelers’ 24-19 victory. “That’s the way I look at it based on the information I’ve been given.”
The injury occurred during the first drive of the contest. After hauling in a short pass from Aaron Rodgers, Nelson attempted to spin away from an oncoming defender before going down in pain.
Here’s a look at the play:
With Nelson out, Randall Cobb will take over as Rodgers’ No. 1 target, while 2014 second-round pick Davante Adams and 2015 third-round pick Ty Montgomery will both be forced to grow up fast and take on significantly larger roles in the Packers’ passing attack.
