Jameis Winston Touchdown Leads Bucs to First Home Win Since 2013 (Video)
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers actually looked like a football team that does not completely suck on Monday night. An impressive opening drive punctuated by a Jameis Winston touchdown got the ball rolling, and Tampa Bay would hold on to record their first win of the preseason over the Bengals.
Of course, that normally would not be a big deal, because the preseason doesn’t matter. But to the Bucs it was a big deal, because they had not won a home game—preseason or regular season—since 2013. They were 0-10 at Raymond James Stadium under head coach Lovie Smith. Now the monkey is off their back, and they can go about their business.
A lot of that has to do with Winston. The number one overall pick in the 2015 draft had a pretty strong showing, going 8/13 for 90 yards. And while he only ran the ball one time, picking up just one yard, that play did result in a touchdown.
Take a look:
If you’re a Bucs fan, you gotta love Winston’s passion. The guy celebrated a meaningless preseason touchdown like it was the fourth quarter of a game in November.
If that enthusiasm for the game rubs off on his teammates, these Bucs will be alright.
