Ryan Clark: Trent Richardson Is “Worst Running Back of All Time” (Video)
When you go on First Take and Skip Bayless has to stop the show and point out that you’re just being hyperbolic, you know you said something pretty damn bold.
That’s what happened during Tuesday’s episode of First Take, though. After guest talking head Ryan Clark called the recently released Trent Richardson the “worst running back of all time,” Bayless actually had to be the reasonable one for once and clarify that Clark couldn’t possibly have meant that Richardson is the worst running back in the history of the NFL.
Clark quickly agreed, of course. He didn’t really mean Richardson is the least-talented human to ever play running back in the NFL. What he really meant was something like: “Richardson is really bad, but a lot of people—myself included—thought he was going to be really good, and the guy was drafted 3rd overall in the 2012 draft, which makes him easily one of the biggest draft busts in NFL history.”
But clearly, that’s just not as pithy as “worst running back of all time.”
In any case, once you get past the hyperbole, both Clark and Bayless make some interesting observations. And Clark tells a story about a conversation he had with Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, who apparently thought Richardson was going to be sh*t all along.
