Flavia Pennetta Wins US Open, Retires Immediately After (Video)

After becoming the oldest first-time grand slam champion in women’s tennis by beating fellow Italian Roberta Vinci in Saturday’s US Open Final, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, 33-year-old Flavia Pennetta announced her retirement while receiving her sterling silver trophy on center court at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
“Before I started this tournament one month ago, I took a big decision in my life. This is the way I would like to say goodbye to tennis,” she told the audience during her post-match interview.
