Eric Berry Returns to Arrowhead for First Game Since Beating Cancer (Videos)
Last November, Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry came off the field during a game against the Raiders complaining of chest pains. Soon after that doctors found a mass in his chest, and a few weeks later Berry was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Berry’s prognosis was good. His diagnosis was curable. But he was going to have to focus all his efforts on getting better, so his football season was over.
Of course, while Berry was in Atlanta getting treatment at the Winship Cancer Institute at Emory University, he was never far from the minds of his fans and teammates. In fact, even opposing teams and coaches kept him in their thoughts and prayers. And when it was announced back in May that Berry had completed his treatment, everyone around the NFL was excited to see him back on the field.
That said, nobody was looking forward to welcoming Eric Berry back to the NFL more than Chiefs fans. So when Berry stepped out onto the field last night at Arrowhead stadium for the first time in a game that matters, it was pretty special.

The crazy thing is, Berry was probably feeling pretty emotional even before he stepped onto the field. Earlier that day, his main chemo nurse and some other staff members from Emory surprised him at his hotel with a signed poster.
So it was quite the day for Eric Berry. It’s more than enough to make a grown man cry.
Unfortunately, as you may know, his day didn’t end very well. But we’ll save a discussion of the actual football game for another post.
