Another High School Football Player Assaults Referee, This Time in Tennessee (Video)
Last week those high school football players in Texas who targeted a referee went on Good Morning America and explained that they were just following orders from one of their coaches. And on Wednesday ESPN confirmed that story, reporting that the boys’ assistant coach told the school principal that he ordered the attack in retaliation for allegedly racist language.
Today we have another shocking case of a high school football player assaulting a referee. But this time it’s the referee making the accusations.
The story comes to us from Glencliff High School in Nashville, Tennessee. Last Friday, a player named Malcolm Easley blindsided referee Kyle Gill, smashing into him from behind and knocking him to the ground. And according to Gill, the kid was just being a jerk.
“I had spoken to the player on the play before, and he told me that I was in his way,” Gill told the Gallatin News. “I asked him how long he’d been playing football and he had to realize that the referees are part of the field. I told him that he should have to avoid me and not the other way around. On the very next play, you saw what happened.”
Take a look:
According to Nashville’s News Channel 4, Malcolm Easy has been suspended by the Metro District Athletic Committee indefinitely.
Oh, and did I mention that Malcolm is the son of Glencliff head coach Brandon Easly? Because he is.
Dad must be so proud!
