Warren Sapp Pleads Guilty to Assaulting His Girlfriend
Hall of Fame defensive tackle Warren Sapp pled guilty to domestic violence in a Las Vegas court on Thursday.
Believe it or not, this is actually the best case scenario for the former NFL great. Sapp was originally charged with three counts of domestic violence back in June. Prosecutors agreed to drop two of the charges in exchange for a guilty plea.
Sapp now has to undergo six months of domestic violence counseling and perform 48 hours of community service. He was also given six months probation and is prohibited from contacting the victim.
That victim, of course, is Sapp’s longtime girlfriend, Chalyce Moore. On April 28, the two got into an argument at the M Resort in Las Vegas. That argument escalated when Sapp thew a margarita at Moore in their private cabana. Police say Sapp also bit Moore’s finger on the drive back to their condo. Then, after they got home, he assaulted her again and apparently stomped on her head.
It’s unclear whether Sapp has a history of violence with Moore. But judging from the relatively light sentence, it doesn’t sound like it. Hopefully this guilty plea can mark a new beginning for Sapp and put an end to the downward spiral that started last February, when he was busted for prostitution after Super Bowl XLIX.
