New Jersey Priest Pulls Musket on 8-Year-Old Who Said He Was a Cowboys Fan
A New Jersey priest has been arrest for pointing a gun at an eight-year-old boy and tolding him he was going to shoot him because he was a Cowboys fan.
In fairness, the “gun” was an antique musket, and it wasn’t loaded. Moreover, the kid’s parents witnessed the incident and were apparently not bothered enough to report it to anybody. So one has to assume it was a joke, and that the priest was just giving the kid a hard time about rooting for the Cowboys instead of the Giants.
That said, it was certainly an ill-advised joke. Pointing even an antique gun at a kid is probably just one of the things you should never do. And after wrestling with it for two whole weeks, a parishioner who witnessed the incident decided they had to report it to the Archdiocese of Newark, which then reported it to police. So on Friday, Fr. Kevin Carter, 54, was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child and aggravated assault by pointing a firearm.
Fr. Carter is expected to plead not guilty to the charges, though one would expect some sort of plea deal involving probation and maybe some sort of counseling or community service.
The good news in all this? At least the church is actually ratting out priests who do bad things to eight-year-olds.
