Michael J. Fox Unveils 2015 Nike Mags with Power Laces—The Back to the Future Sneakers
So the Cubs are not going to win the 2015 World Series. Ironically, they were eliminated from the postseason on October 21, 2015, the very day Back to the Future Part II predicted they would finally win a championship.
But hey, cheer up everybody. The folks at Nike made sure that at least one Back to the Future prediction came true on Back to the Future Day. With the help of Michael J. Fox himself, on Wednesday they unveiled the first pair of Nike Mags with real power laces—just like the one’s worn by Marty McFly.
Here’s a video of an amazed Michael J. Fox trying them on for the very first time:

And here’s a video of Fox making the official unveiling on Jimmy Kimmel Live:
Before you head off to camp out in front of your local Foot Locker, you should probably know that while Nike is going to release a limited number of their 2015 Nike Mags with power laces, they’re only going to be sold via auction, with all proceeds benefitting the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
If that sounds familiar, it’s because Nike did the same thing with the Back to the Future Nike Mags in 2011. According to ESPN, that auction raised $4.7 million without genuine power laces. One can only imagine how much the 2015 Nike Mags will raise.
Fear not, though, sneakerheads. Nike insists that they are continuing to develop and test power lace technology “across multiple sports.” So you may get to buy your own pair of ($500) power lace sneakers yet.
