Rex Ryan Names IK Enemkpali Captain vs. Jets, Continues Epic Troll Job
Rex Ryan is a better troll than he is a football coach.
That’s not meant to be a shot at Rex’s coaching abilities. Okay, maybe it is. But it’s also meant to be a compliment to Rex’s troll game, which has been unrivaled among NFL coaches thus far this season.
Just yesterday the Buffalo Bills head coach was trolling the Miami Dolphins by sending out three former Dolphins players for the coin toss prior to their week 9 match-up against Miami. And Ryan has already informed the public of his next troll job: He plans to name IK Enemkpali as the Bills captain for Thursday’s game against the New York Jets.
In case you don’t remember, Enemkpali was a member of the Jets but was cut during training camp after he sucker punched Geno Smith, breaking the quarterback’s jaw and forcing him out of action for several weeks.
Sure, some might want to argue that Enemkpali is actually the MVP of the Jets thus far this season, as his sucker punch forced the team to go with Ryan Fitzpatrick under center. And that move has resulted in a drastic improvement to a Jets offense that is averaging over 65 passing yards and seven points more per game compared to last season, when Smith was running the offense.
But regardless of whether or not Enemkpali’s actions were beneficial to the Jets’ organization as a whole, you can bet tensions will still be high when the players meet at midfield for the pregame coin flip. Don’t be surprised if there’s more trash-talking than hand-shaking taking place.
