Matt Barnes Calls Out Derek Fisher For Being A Snitch
Memphis Grizzlies forward Matt Barnes has called out New York Knicks coach Derek Fisher for being a snitch.
“We’re two grown men who should have handled two grown men’s business,” Barnes told the L.A. Times on Monday. “But he wanted to run and tell the cops and the NBA.”
Of course, by “grown men’s business,” Barnes means the fight he and Fisher got into last month over Barnes’ ex-wife, Gloria Govan. As you may recall, Barnes found out that Fisher was dating Govan. So Barnes got in his car and drove 95 miles from Santa Barbara to Govan’s home in Los Angeles and challenged Fisher to a fight.
Barnes later told ESPN that he had received “concerning” texts from his sons saying they were “uncomfortable” with another man being at their house. However, that “other man” was there with about 10 other people, sitting around a bonfire in their mom’s backyard. So Barnes almost certainly exaggerated the extent to which he was acting out of parental concern.
The police said officers responded to an incident involving Barnes, Fisher, and Govan, but that no charges would be filed.
Barnes blamed the New York Post for blowing the situation out of proportion.
Matt Barnes: “The New York Post is run by the New York Knicks, so it’s obviously a way of trying to make me look like the bad guy.”

But the reality is that any time you drive 95 miles to fight a guy who’s nailing your ex-wife, you’re going to attract negative attention.
Yes, Barnes and Fisher were teammates and good friends with the Lakers from 2010-12. So yes, it’s awkward that Fisher and Govan are now dating. But Barnes has been going around town trying to convince people he’s dating Rihanna for Christ’s sake. So he really just needs to chill out.
