Overturned Porzingis Buzzer-Beater Caps Crazy Finish To Knicks-Hornets Game (Video)
Cody Zeller and Kristaps Porzingis, a couple of pasty beanpoles with a combined age of 43, gave the Knicks-Hornets game one hell of an ending in Charlotte on Wednesday night.
With 28 seconds left in the game and the score knotted at 93, Cody Zeller missed not one but two free throws, with the Knicks grabbing the rebound on the second. So it looked like the Hornets were cooked.
However, the Knicks failed to score on their possession and, even worse, gave the ball back on a shot clock turnover with three seconds left. So on the ensuing possession, Zeller made up for his missed free throws by coming off a pick on an inbound play, taking a pass, and scoring what looked like the game-winning layup with just 0.6 seconds remaining.
The game wasn’t over, though. After a 20 second timeout, the Knicks inbounded the ball from half court, and Porzingis, the fourth overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, drained a three-pointer as time expired.
The guy who was “covering” Porzingis when he drained his shot? That would be Cody Zeller.
Luckily for Zeller, the refs determined that Porzingis was 0.1 seconds too slow. So his buzzer-beater was overruled and Zeller’s wound up winning the game for the Hornets.
