Kirk Cousins Gives Dad Game Ball After Attending First Game Since Cancer Diagnosis (Video)
Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins has had a lot more to worry about this year than competition from Robert Griffin III. Back in the summer, Cousins’ dad, Don Cousins, was diagnosed with cancer, and until last week he had been undergoing treatment.
The younger Cousins hasn’t spoken about the situation with the media because he didn’t wanted it to become the storyline. But you know it had to be weighing on him. And you can’t help but wonder if the fact that his father finally completed his treatment and was healthy enough to attend Sunday’s game against the Saints had something to do with Cousins’ brilliant performance.
How brilliant are we talking about? Well, the guy went 20-for-25 with 324 yards, four touchdowns, zero interceptions, and a perfect passer rating of 158.3—just the 65th in NFL history. So Cousins was pretty much the anti-Peyton.
That said, the best part of Cousins’ day—for him and for us—came after the game, when he went and found his dad in the stands behind the FedEx Field endzone, gave him a hug, and then gave him the game ball.
Take a look. It’ll definitely give you the feels:
