Jim Harbaugh Smashed a Buckeye Nut with a Hammer on the Grave of Legendary Michigan Coach Bo Schembechler
This weekend one of the biggest and best rivalries in college sports will play out for the 112th time as the Ohio State Buckeyes travel to Ann Arbor to take on the Michigan Wolverines.
How big is this rivalry? So big that the annual meeting between the Buckeyes and Wolverines doesn’t even have a catchy title like the Red River Showdown or the Iron Bowl. It is simply called The Game, as though it is the only one on earth that really matters.
Of course, if you follow the Big Ten then you know Ohio State has dominated Michigan in recent years, winning 10 of their last 11 meetings. Michigan, meanwhile, has floundered, reaching double-digits in the win column just twice in that span and posting losing records three times.
However, things are different this year. Sure, Ohio State is coming off a surprising National Championship season under Urban Meyer. And sure, they’re currently 10-1 and ranked 8th in the nation. But Michigan has turned things around this year under Jim Harbaugh. Ranked 12th, the Wolverines are 9-2 overall and 6-1 in the Big Ten, and there’s a new, positive vibe in Ann Arbor.
The stakes for The Game are pretty high. A Michigan win coupled with a Michigan State loss would put Michigan in the Big Ten title game. An Ohio State win coupled with a Michigan State loss would put them in the Big Ten title game and give them a very slim, outside shot at getting back into the College Football Playoff picture.
So which team has the advantage? I have no idea. All I know is Jim Harbaugh is busting out some serious voodoo to get his guys pumped up. On Tuesday he led the Wolverines’ on their traditional walk through Forest Hill Cemetary to visit the graves of Michigan legends like Bob Ufer, Fielding H. Yost, and Bo Schembechler. And when they got to Schembechler, Harbaugh took out a hammer and smashed a buckeye nut right on top of his grave.

And you thought “The Game” was just a game.
