UMass Guard Trey Davis Says Mom Shutting Off Phone Data Provided Motivation for 40-Point Performance (Video + Tweet)
Finding a way to connect with college athletes has always been a struggle for older coaches. But it’s even harder today, with technology constantly transforming the way people socialize and connect. If they don’t stay on top of the latest trends, like your Twittergrams and Snapbooks, they’re just not going to get through to some kids.
The mother of UMass Minutemen guard Trey Davis knows how to motivate her son, though. And coaches might want to take note.
You see, after Davis played poorly against Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday, his mom figured he wasn’t putting enough work in at the gym. So she decided to cut off the data on his cell phone until he improved.
How’d Davis play on Wednesday against New Orleans? He scored 40 points, just one shy of the UMass record.
