Broncos’ Game-Tying Punt Return TD Negated By Illegal Substitution (Video)
The Denver Broncos lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers by seven points on Sunday, so it may not be too large of a stretch to suggest that this negated punt return touchdown was the difference.
The play in question took place late in the third quarter, with the Broncos trailing 27-20. After watching a Steelers punt roll to the Broncos’ 29-yard-line, everyone figured the play was dead. But not Denver punt returner Jordan Norwood, who scooped the ball up and blew past the Steelers’ punt coverage unit for a 71-yard touchdown return.
Unfortunately for the Broncos, they too figured the play was dead, so some members of their offensive unit began making their way onto the field while Norwood was making his way into the end zone, resulting in an illegal substitution penalty on Denver, thus negating the touchdown.
Check it out:
Final Score: Steelers 34, Broncos 27.
Denver sure could have used those seven points.
