Duke Win First Bowl Game In 54 Years On Questionable Field-Goal Call By Refs (Video)
Earlier today, the Duke Blue Devils football team won their first bowl game in 54 years after beating Indiana in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl, 44-41, but they didn’t do it without a bit of controversy.
After scoring a field-goal on their opening drive of overtime, Duke’s defense forced the Indiana offense to attempt a 38-yard field-goal in order to send the game into double overtime. That’s when Hoosiers kicker Griffin Oakes stepped up and put his kick almost directly over the right goalpost.
The refs ruled it no-good, but the Indiana players were sure it was good. Unfortunately for them, the play is not reviewable when the ball travels over the goalposts (which seems like a pretty stupid rule).
