Calvin Johnson, 30, Contemplating Retirement From The NFL
Shocking news out of Detroit that WR Calvin Johnson has at least thought about the idea of retiring this year. The Detroit Lions already forced a guy named Barry Sanders to do so when he clearly had more years in him way back when.
“Like many players at this stage of their career, I am currently evaluating options for my future,” Johnson said in a statement released by the Lions Wednesday afternoon.
Johnson added that he expects to reach a decision “in the not-too-distant future.”

A former teammate who wished to remain anonymous told the Detroit Free Press “it’s just his time” and that he’s talked with Johnson about retirement.
None of Calvin Johnson’s $20M option bonus could be recouped if he retires. Different rules than signing bonus.
