John Cena to Miss WrestleMania Due to Shoulder Surgery
Bad news for WWE fans looking forward to the rumored showdown between The Undertaker and 15-time world champion John Cena at WrestleMania 32.
On Wednesday, Cena announced via Twitter that he was headed to Birmingham, Alabama, for shoulder surgery on January 7:
Rather upside down start to 2016 as tomorrow I will head to Birmingham for shoulder surgery. Life’s full of set backs but #nevergiveup
— John Cena (@JohnCena) January 7, 2016
Neither Cena nor the WWE have said anything about the extent of the injury. However, according to a report by PWInsider, Cena suffered a torn rotator cuff some time in the last few weeks, and the recovery time is expected to extend well past WrestleMania 32 on April 3, 2016. So whatever the WWE had planned, they’ll have to scrap it.
The silver lining to all this? Cena has been killing it on the big screen lately, with hilarious roles in both Trainwreck and Sisters. So the time away from wrestling could give him a chance to further develop what looks to be a promising acting career.
Of course, that’s little consolation for the folks at the WWE in charge of selling pay-per-views for WrestleMania 32. (And for those who just want to see Cena rolling around in the ring with his shirt off.)
