NHL Players Seth Jones and Ryan Johansen Cross Paths at Airport After Being Traded for Each Other (Pic)

On Wednesday, the Nashville Predators and Columbus Blue Jackets pulled off a huge one-for-one, offense-for-defense trade. The Preds sent 21-year-old defenseman Seth Jones to Columbus, while the Blue Jackets sent 23-year-old center Ryan Johansen to Nashville. The Blue Jackets got a 6’4″, 205-pound kid who can anchor their blue line for the next decade. The Predators got even stronger up the middle with a skilled center who just last year was named MVP of the NHL All-Star game.

On paper, the transaction looks to be a win-win. Columbus is in the basement of the Eastern Conference, so they get a solid piece for the future. Nashville is in the middle of the pack in the Western Conference, so they get a solid piece to push them forward right now. That said, the best part of this trade has nothing to do with action on the ice and everything to do with travel itineraries.

On Wednesday night, just hours after being trade for each other, Seth Jones and Ryan Johansen actually bumped into each other at the Columbus airport. And apparently the two former #4 overall draft picks really hit it off.

Ran into my good buddy jonesy at the airport last night.

Here’s Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch with the details of their meeting:

Of course, flying from Nashville to Columbus, Jones probably could have flown Southwest. Nobody would have recognized him.
