Florida HS Hires First Female Head Coach & Uncle Luke As Defensive Coordinator
Before you ask, yes that is Bernice from ‘South Beach Tow’ and that is Uncle Luke from the 2 live crew, both now members of the Miami Jackson High School coaching staff. Jackson High’s new coach is Lakatriona Brunson, known as Bernice on the truTV show “South Beach Tow,” in which she was an assistant manager at Tremont Towing, the show ran from 2011-2014.
Brunson earned a Physical Education/Fitness degree at Tennessee State, played football in the Independent Women’s Football League and is a physical education teacher at Jackson High, according to the Herald.
The star power on Jackson High’s staff continues with Brunson’s hire of Luther Campbell as defensive coordinator. You may remember Campbell from the ESPN 30 for 30, “The U,” which chronicled the University of Miami’s rise to prominence in football during the 1980’s. Campbell, who was lead vocals for 2 Live Crew, was interviewed in the documentary for his involvement in the program during that controversial time.
Prior to Monday’s hire, Campbell was the defensive coordinator at Norland High School.
This is easily the best story of the year so far. I hope they succeed.
“At first I thought ‘this [expletive] might be crazy because I take football real serious,” Campbell told the Herald. “But after a conversation with her, I said, ‘Naw she knows her football. She’s on point. I don’t take this as a joke. I didn’t want to be a part of no circus.”
