The FBI Talked to Jeremy Shockey During Investigation Into International Drug and Gambling Ring
On January 28, the FBI arrested 21 people with connections to an international drug and gambling ring called ODOG Enterprise and supposedly run by former USC tight end Owen Hanson. Since then, the investigation has been widening, with officials slowly making their way through Hanson’s extensive contact list, which includes dozens of pro athletes from the NFL, NBA, and MLB.
According to the New York Post, two weeks ago the FBI paid a visit to former Pro Bowl tight end Jeremy Shockey at his Miami home.
Shockey is friends with Hanson, and in 2010 took a trip to Costa Rica with him. However, he says he told investigators that he had no idea Hanson was involved in illegal activities.
“I thought he was in the real-estate business like me,” Shockey told The Post. “I’m a straight businessman. I don’t hang out with drug dealers or prostitutes. I’m here with my girlfriend making out, and I get a knock on my door from these agents. I said to them, ‘Come on in. I got nothing to hide.'”
You gotta love how he threw in that bit about making out with his girlfriend.
As for how the two met, Shockey says their friendship began when he passed out at a pool party in Vegas.
“I thought he was a very smart, nice guy,” Shockey said. “He was single. He was so cool. He was on the phone all the time. He knew everybody — DJs, celebrities. Pete Carroll knows him. Reggie Bush knows him; they were teammates at USC. This guy had money. He had cash on him all the time. But I thought it was from his business. No one knew any of this sh*t was going on.”
Time will tell if the FBI believes him.
