Red Sox Fan Begs Bruce Bochy to Take Back Pablo Sandoval (Video)
Last winter, after the Giants won their third World Series in five years, the Boston Red Sox poached their free agent third baseman, Pablo Sandoval, with a five-year, $95 million deal.
At first Red Sox fans were excited. They were getting a guy who had been a major catalyst in three brilliant post-season runs. A guy who was still in his prime and who had possibly the best nickname—Kung Fu Panda—in all of baseball.
Unfortunately, Panda’s first full season in Boston was an unmitigated disaster. The guy showed up to spring training fatter than ever, then hit .245/.292/.366 for the season. Oh, and he was benched for going on Instagram during a game, and on several others occasions he had to remove himself games because running the bases proved too exhausting. Seriously.
The worst part is that there is absolutely nothing the Red Sox can do. MLB’s current collective bargaining agreement prohibits contract clauses requiring players to maintain a certain weight. So even if Sandoval turns into the Jared Lorenzen of baseball, the Red Sox still owe him another $77.4 million.
Needless to say, Red Sox fans are no longer excited to have Sandoval on their team. In fact, at the San Francisco Giants Fan Fest on Saturday, one Red Sox fan actually begged Giants manager Bruce Bochy to take Pablo back.
Bochy didn’t respond, of course. But he didn’t have to. All the Giants fans in attendance starting shouting “NOOOOO.”
Seriously, Pablo, eat a salad.
