Cubs Fan Parks Too Close to Field, Gets Windshield Smashed by Kyle Schwarber Moonshot (Pics)

There is not a Cubs fan on earth who would underestimate the power of Kyle Schwarber. Last year the kid mashed 16 home runs in just 69 games as a rookie, including a moonshot that landed (and was later enshrined) on top of the right field videoboard at Wrigley Field during Game 5 of the NLDS. So Schwarber is now a legend on the North Side of Chicago.

However, while no Cubs fan will underestimate Schwarber’s power, there is at least one who didn’t know where Schwarber would be taking batting practice when he went to park his car at the Cubs’ spring training facility on Wednesday.

That fan’s name is Peter Gesler. And his car windshield paid the price for his ignorance:

Of course, as you would expect from a fan passionate enough to be there on the first day of spring training, Gesler was a very good sport about the whole thing.

Here’s what he had to say to the folks at Bleed Cubbie Blue:

When I parked, no one was on that field, so I didn’t think much about it. I was standing behind home plate where all the fans were when Schwarber launched the shot. I followed the trajectory and heard the impact. Players cheered and applauded knowing he hit something. I knew my car was there so went to inspect and sure enough. I moved my car, then. Lots of people over there taking pictures. I hope to speak to Kyle sometime and laugh about it. Not his fault. He was doing what he does best.

We don’t yet know if Gesler has had that laugh with Schwarber. However, it would appear that Schwarber has taken care of that windshield:
