Johnny Manziel Domestic Violence Case Sent to Grand Jury
Dallas Police announced on Thursday that they have decided to send Johnny Manziel‘s domestic violence case to a grand jury to determine whether to charge the Cleveland Browns quarterback after he allegedly attacked his ex-girlfriend Colleen Crowley on January 30.
In a statement, the Dallas Police said that they have requested a misdemeanor assault case be brought forth to the grand jury by the Dallas County District Attorney’s office. If Manziel were to be charged and found guilty, the crime carries a maximum sentence of one year in jail and a $4,000 fine.
The Dallas Police were believed to have enough information based on Crowley’s affidavit to charge Manziel without needing a grand jury, with one longtime Dallas criminal defense attorney saying that they may be giving the troubled quarterback “more of the benefit of the doubt than they give every other citizen they deal with.”
No timeline on the grand jury’s final decision has been set.
