Iowa Wrestler Wins Big Ten Championship, Credits Mullet in Post-Match Interview (Video)
On Sunday, Iowa wrestler Sammy Brooks defeated Nebraska’s T.J. Dudley for the 184-pound Big Ten championship. Then he immediately let the success go to his head—by which I mean he gave full credit for the victory to his expertly coiffed mullet.
In a post-match interview with the Big Ten Network, Brooks didn’t talk about himself or even wrestling. Instead, despite the best efforts of BTN’s Shane Sparks, Brooks kept bringing the conversation back to his hairdo:
Brooks: I think these fans just respond really well to a good haircut, so that’s what I was working on coming in here, making sure I had it fluffed and feathered the right way. I think the fans saw my hard work.
Sparks: I don’t know where I go from that, but we’ll go in the direction of consistencey and trust—you trust yourself right now?
Brooks: Yeah, yeah, I gain trust every time my hair grows a little more, and a little more I trust in myself and my mullet, so it’s a process, you know. You can’t grow a great mullet in a day. You can’t win a Big Ten title in a day.
Brooks: Yeah, it’s a great time.
Sparks: Best mullet in college wrestling.

With all due respect to the guy who just wanted some ice cream, I’m pretty sure that was the greatest interview in the history of college wrestling.
