Here Are the Details of Tom Brady’s Contract Extension
As we had assumed and reported, Patriots star QB Tom Brady was expected to sign a two-year contract extension that would keep him in New England until 2019 and supposedly free up a little cap space for the Pats in the process.
Now, the details are out on the signed doc, and it seems to have done both those things. The term is two more years, and the contract takes a lot of the money he was set to be paid this year and next, and postpone it until 2018 and 2019. So the next four years break down basically like this, respectively: $14 million, $14 million, $22 million, $22 million.
It’s seen as a great deal for both sides, as the Pats will have more money to assemble a team around a still-mobile Brady for the next two years, and Brady will make some serious bank later on when perhaps he’s not quite as useful and the team’s championship hopes are waning.
This contract seems to be based on trust more than anything, a factor you don’t see in many other football relationships between players and teams.
