Giancarlo Stanton Launches Moonshot Off Justin Verlander, Picking Up Right Where He Left Off (Video)
Giancarlo Stanton hit 27 home runs in his first 74 games last year. And we’re not talking about regular big league home runs, either. We’re talking about jaw-dropping, 500-foot, stadium clearing moonshots.
Unfortunately, those were the only 27 home runs Stanton hit last year. The Marlins slugger missed the second half of the season after breaking a bone in his hand. If Stanton had kept raking at that pace he might have become just the sixth player ever to reach the 60 home run plateau. At the very least he would have given Bryce Harper a run for his money in the MVP race.
The good news? Stanton is healthy again. And in the Marlin’s opener on Tuesday, he picked up right where he left off. In just his second at-bat of the 2016 season, Stanton launched a 401-foot moonshoot off Tigers ace Justin Verlander.

If you’re the praying sort, ask your deity of choice to do us a solid and keep Stanton healthy for a full season. Baseball is a lot more fun when this guy is playing every day.
